Why HE had to die.

Just returned home from another great meeting with my brother in Christ John Follman. In these meetings, John and I regularly discuss how BIG GOD is and (even though we try and make ourselves big) how small and frail we really are.
As I was making the 30 minute drive home (yeah it really is 30 minutes) with the radio turned off and in the quiet of my car, as always GOD began to speak to me. As I drove home, I thought about a commercial I saw on T.V. recently promoting a new program on the History Channel. The commercial informed me that the History Channel was going to try and uncover who in fact was responsible for the death of Jesus. The commercial went on to say that the History Channel would investigate those who played a major role in the crucifixion of Jesus and from that would try to reveal who in fact was responsible. Was it Judas' fault because of his love of money? Was it Pontus Pilate? Was it in fact the Pharisees who loved their own lives and refused to be born again?
I hate to burst the bubble of those at the History Channel but I must say that the person who was most responsible for the death of Jesus was none of those people. The person most responsible for the death of Jesus, was in fact....... Jesus. Isaiah 53:7 says, "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet HE did not open HIS mouth; He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so HE did not open HIS mouth."
So I say to those of you at the History Channel know this: GOD knew that we would eventually make a wreck of our lives, so he sent his own son Jesus to die willingly as a sin offering for us. Jesus died willingly to bridge the gap between us and GOD. This was predestined before the world began. So as I write this post I am constantly meditating on I Peter 2:22-24 which says, "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at HIM he did not retaliate; when HE suffered, he made no threats. Instead He entrusted HIMSELF to HIM who judge justly. HE HIMSELF bore our sins in HIS body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by HIS wounds we have been healed."
So, my question to you now is this; Do you know HIM?

The Greatest of all time.

Recently I was just sitting around thinking about the greatest performers of all time in their respective fields. I thought about how my favorite football player of all time is Jerry Rice and how he was the greatest wide receiver off all time. I also thought about basketball and who might be the greatest player of all time. Many say that this is Michael Jordan but, as many of my friends would tell you, I believe "Magic" Johnson was the greatest of all time. Then their is baseball. Is it Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, I don't know.
In Mark chapter 9:33, Jesus disciples were arguing about who the greatest disciple was. In their minds they were trying to get an edge on who would be Jesus' right hand man. You see, in 63 B.C. the Roman general Pompey had led a Roman army into Jerusalem. As a result, the Romans now occupied Jerusalem. All their lives the disciples had heard about a Messiah that would come to save them and now he was here. In their minds Jesus had come to kick the Romans out of Israel and to set up his own kingdom. Even after repeated warnings about His future on the cross, Jesus' disciples still argued over who would be Jesus' right hand man and who would be the greatest in this new kingdom.
In a way, I think this describes all of us. We are constantly trying to make ourselves bigger and God smaller. The fact of the matter is, God is much bigger than all of us ever dreamed to be. In John chapter 1:19 we are introduced to a guy named John the Baptist. In this passage the Pharisees, (the religious leaders of the day) had sent priests and levites to question John the Baptist about who he was. In John 1:20 John the Baptist clearly states, "I am not the Christ." In this moment John the Baptist could have said, "Yep, I am the Christ bow down and worship my glory!" But, instead, John the Baptist gave up his 15 minutes of fame and chose to take a back seat to Jesus.
In John chapter 3 we see John the Baptist again. Now, John the Baptist, or John the Baptizer, was again doing business as usual baptising people. Until this time, John the Baptist had a virtual monopoly on baptizing. If you wanted to be baptized in these days, you went and saw John the Baptist. But now all of a sudden their shows up a new guy on the block and he is baptizing too. His name is Jesus. In verse 26, some of John the Baptist's disciples come to him throwing a fit saying, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan- the one you testified about- well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him!" I can just imagine the crossed arms and the anger in their voice when they said this. In other words, they wanted John the Baptist to go and tell Jesus to stop baptizing people. Baptizing was their monopoly and they owned it.
John the Baptist again chooses to take a back seat the Jesus' when he goes on to say, "You yourselves heard me say that I am not the Christ but was sent ahead of him. The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, AND IT IS NOW COMPLETE! HE MUST BECOME GREATER AND I MUST BECOME LESS."John the Baptist could have had all the fame he ever wanted, but he chose to lay down his life for the advancement of someone far greater than himself, JESUS CHRIST.
In Matthew chapter 16:24 Jesus told HIS disciples, "If anyone would come after ME, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it." So my question to you today is this: Who's greatness are we living for our's or Jesus'? Meet me in the upper room of the Eagle Heights Church student building this Wednesday night to learn more.

As Jesus, James, John and Peter came down off the mountain, the other nine disciples were in a heated argument with the teachers of the law. When the multitudes saw Jesus they ran toward him and surrounded him trying to tell their side of the story first. Amidst the chaos, a man pushed his way through the multitudes and fell at Jesus' feet. "Lord it's my son, he has great seizures which try to kill him by throwing him into the fire and water. He suffers greatly from these seizures. I took him to your disciples but they could not heal him."
Jesus then looked at HIS disciples and said, "O unbelieving and perverse generation how much longer shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to ME."
So they brought the boy to JESUS and when the evil spirit saw JESUS it threw the boy down onto the ground and he began flailing around, knashing his teeth and foaming at the mouth.
Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?" (As if Jesus didn't know)"From childhood," answered the boy's father, "Sometimes it grabs hold of him and throws him into the fire and also the water trying to kill him. But IF you can do anything, have pity and help us."
"If you can?" responded Jesus, "Nothing is impossible for those who believe!" Then Jesus healed the little boy so much so many thought he was dead. But Jesus extended his hand and lifted up the little boy to a new life. Jesus went on to say that if we would have the faith of a mustard seed, we could move mountains.
So, my question to you is this: What kind of miracle do you need today? If you are in need of a miracle do like the man in this story did, bow down at the feet of Jesus and ask him. When you do ask him, have faith that he can change your circumstances. After all he said it himself that nothing is impossible with HIM.

Crazy Laws

As a Sheriff's Deputy it is my job to enforce the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Recently, I looked up some of the crazy laws of Kentucky and this is what I found. It is illegal to fish in the Ohio River in Kentucky without an Indiana fishing license. It is illegal to fish with a bow and arrow in Kentucky. It is illegal to transport an ice cream cone in your pocket. It is illegal for a woman to buy a hat without her husbands permission. And last but not least my personal favorite crazy law: No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club". The following important ammendment however is to be considered here: "The provisions of this statuate shall not apply to females weighing less than 90 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds. What?
In Jesus day their were a bunch of guys who were named the Pharisees and they were always picking at Jesus about their laws. In Matthew chapter 15 a caertain number of Pharisees had tracked down Jesus and asked him about ceremonial washing of the hands before eating. In verse 2 the Pharisees asked Jesus, "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!"
Ceremonial washing was just one of many crazy laws that the people of Jesus day would have to keep to be considered forgiven. In verse 10 Jesus responded by telling those present, "Listen and understand. What goes into a man's mouth doesn't make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean." In essence, Jesus was saying whatever comes from the heart is what matters.
The fact of the matter is their is nothing that you or I can do to earn forgiveness. Jesus said in John chapter 14:6, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me."
My question to you is this: Have you been trying to earn forgiveness? If so I know how you feel because I once tried to earn forgiveness too. The weight of sin and religion can sometimes be overbearing. If you constantly feel the overbearing weight of sin and religion in your life know that you can be set free right now. In Matthew chapter 11:28 Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow night in the upper room of the student building at Eagle Heights Church.

Getting out of the Boat

After he fed the 15,000, and after several years of persecution from the Romans, they wanted to make Jesus their King. They had come to the conclusion he was the one they had always heard about, the one who would come to deliver them from their slavery. After all, if Jesus could feed 15,000 with two fish and five crackers, surely he could amass an army big enough to overthrow their Roman occupiers. But instead, knowing that they were coming to make him king by force, Jesus put his disciples on a boat and told them to go to the other side where he would meet them. Then, somehow, he escaped the 15,000 and went up on a mountain to pray.
As the disciples rowed their boat, a furious storm raged threatening to sink the boat. Seeing this from his mountain retreat, Jesus walked down the mountain and onto the water just a few feet from the disciples boat. When they first saw him they were terrified and cried out in fear, "It's a ghost!" But Jesus replied, "Take courage! It is I! Don't be afraid!"
Then Peter, the outspoken disciple and risk taker, said to HIM, "Lord, if it is really you, tell me to come to you on the water." Jesus replied, "Come!"
How many times in our lives has Jesus asked us to get out of the boat? How many times will he in the future? It takes great faith to step out of the boat sometimes. It takes great faith to trust Jesus and to step out of the boat. My question to you is this: What is Jesus asking you to do? When he calls, will you have enough faith to step out of the boat? Only two people in the history of the world have ever walked on water. The first and foremost was Jesus. The second was Peter and the only reason Peter was able to walk on water was because of the twelve disciples, he was the only one who had enough faith to step out of the boat. God Bless and see you tomorrow night.

Helping Others in Need

Last Wednesday night during the Ealge Heights Church Middle School meeting, we discussing how our Lord Jesus fed thousands with just five pieces of bread and two small fish. After hearing this message, I ask our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus to remember those who are hungry and in need. The next time you feel the Holy Spirit prompting you to give to those who are in need I pray that you will own your money and that your money will not own you.

Strength to Stand

Yesterday 24 of us returned home from Pigeon Forge, TN and the Stregth
to Stand Student Conference. We were challenged in our walk and were
brought closer to our King. What a great trip for our young people!

Now it's back to life and time to walk out what God said to each of
us. Please continue to pray for our students as they head back to
school.

Thank you for praying for each of them while we were there.

Check out more at www.strengthtostand.com.

In the name of Jesus Christ and to all my brothers and sisters in the Eagle Heights Church Middle School Ministry hello. To all of you that went to the Strength to Stand Conference in Pigeon Forge a special welcome back to you as well. I hope those of you that went had a great time and drew even closer to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow night, we will be discussing giving what you have to Jesus and letting him use it. The passage we will be studying comes from Mark Chapter 6. In this passage Jesus has spent the whole day healing the masses of people who followed him everywhere he went. These crowds numbered anywhere between 5,000 - 20,000 people. As the day grew long and night approached, Jesus disciples asked him to send the people away so that they could go into the towns to buy something to eat. Jesus responded by telling his disciples to give the crowds something to eat.
Not long after this, one of Jesus' disciples, Andrew, the one disciple know for always bringing people to Jesus, brought a little boy to Jesus. This little boy had five loaves of barley and two fish. Barley bread was the poor man's bread of Jesus' day but even though it was all he had, the little boy gave the bread and the two fish to Jesus expecting a miracle that day.
Jesus took what amounted to five saltine crackers and two sardines and blessed them and gave thanks. Even though it wasn't much, the little boy gave what he had and Jesus used it to feed the masses of people on that hillside that day.
In the world we live in, it is estimated that 26,500 people die every day to a preventable disease called starvation. This disease is easily preventable and can be cured. The question is, will you be like the little boy in this story and give? Even if it is just a little, give to make sure that people around the world don't go hungry tonight. In essence, own you money, don't let it own you. To hear more about this, join us at the student building at Eagle Heights Church tomorrow night. Until then show someone the love of Jesus and may GOD bless.

Hello everyone! Seems as if it has been a while since I have written a blog. Hope everyone took advantage of the time away and used it to spend with family and friends. I and a few others from church recently were blessed with the opportunity to go to the Passion Conference in Atlanta Georgia. After four days of church, my cup has been filled and I am ready make Jesus famous. Tomorrow night at the Eagle Heights Church middle school meeting, we will be discussing witnessing to others. In this world we live in 250,000 people die every day with 200,000 of them not knowing Jesus as their personal savior. This breaks my heart. These people could be our neighbors, our friends, our co-workers or our family. In Mark chapter 6 Jesus sent HIS newly formed team of disciples out two-by-two to tell the world about HIM and to preach the good news that forgiveness of sin was available through HIM. We will also be discussing the eternal consequences for those who do not know Jesus. These is a very difficult subject for me to teach on but it is also one that cannot be ignored any longer. I invite you to join us in the upper room of the Student Building tomorrow night. I look forward to seeing your smiling faces.

Worship Practice still on...

The youth will still be meeting for worship practice this afternoon at 4pm in the Student Building. See you then!
